Yemin Moshe: Windmill Dash or Walk

This week I saw so many colors of Israel.

Sunrise on the Kinneret with the Swim4Sadna,

View of Sea from Carmel

then sunset from the Carmel mountains,

where the blues of sky and sea blend together.

West Bank view of JOrdan

Along the Jordan Valley Road

were colorful packing grates.

But as wonderful it is to go and see the land,

back in Jerusalem, Israel,

street in Yemin Moshe

the colors of Yemin Moshe are a favorite.

I love to share its color on photo walks.

But also fun was to meet up with friends

Yemin Moshe with friends

for a new amazing Israel ScaVenture!

I have walked Yemin Moshe countless times,

each time I see and say there is something new.

Families have stopped and posed for photos here,

taking photo for scaventure

but I had not noticed this bomb shelter sign.

new sign in Yemin Moshe

Near the Jerusalem Press Club

was the “No climbing” sign we needed to finish our hunt.

But did Kate climb or not climb?

View of Old City from Yemin Moshe

The Windmill Dash ends by the Montefiore Windmill plaza,

with an amazing view of the Old City.

I was so glad to have dashed back

from the beautiful colors of the North

group photo from Scanvegerhunt

to participate in this Blogger ScaVenture Hunt.

We did the Old City,

then Nahlaot,

last year Gush Etzion,

and now another favorite neighborhood.

What will Tali come up with next?

Most impressive is how these events are good

for families, all age groups and knowledge levels.

Dash around Mishkanot Shaananim and Yemin Moshe.

Then when you are ready to go slower,

see more and set up those photos,

be in touch.

There is always something new to see

on and off the Jerusalem, Israel streets.

Thankful for the Rain

Yesterday the sun was shining,

image flowers on street

and even though the sky was not blue,

these gates were very blue.

photo street scene Yemin Moshe

Yemin Moshe was picture perfect,

only the streets were empty,

and much too quiet without the usual tourists.

I was looking at the new signs for Hamshushalayim,

an annual Jerusalem tourist weekend discount offer,

and I wondered how it would do with so many people staying away,

image people walking near streets

and just then a group of tourists walked by.

Things have been slower this week,

but work has gone on.

In the US as people prepare for the Thanksgiving holiday,

in Israel, thankfully it has started to rain,

woman crossing street in rain

and rain.

image rain in Jerusalem, Israel

We are thankful for rain for it is an answer to our prayers,

wet streets and splashing cars

but one which involves flooded streets

traffic accident near light rail

and accidents galore.

However,

 rain or shine,

sleet or snow,

or terror threat,

the Melvin J. Berman Hebrew Academy High School from Rockville, Maryland,

is in Israel again for their Israel mission.

Every four years the entire high school gets a trip to Israel

over the Thanksgiving holiday week.

It can be a life changing experience to see

the real Jerusalem, Israel, streets, even in the wet and rain.

 And

a group of 1000 pilgrims is on their way from Lagos, Nigeria,

so things go on.

I just hope I do not rust.

20 Signs of Rosh Hashana in Jerusalem

The end of 5774 is in sight

and signs of the new year are everywhere.

image Rosh Hashana

The municipality has posted signs wishing a good year to Jerusalem 5775.

This morning, there are dark circles under many eyes of those

who stayed up late for Selihot prayers, and then woke up early this morning.

The Selichot prayers are scheduled almost non-stop,

and there are even tours to see those who recite the special prayers.

One is to be held in Kikar Safra, the Jerusalem Government Square.

image free bus sign

These new signs are for free buses to the Old City,

I had to try one and not walk every time.

Many pre-holiday parties include “raising a cup” to toast the new year,

image truck inspedtion

which makes it a perfect time for road stops to test vehicles and drivers.

image Israel police

But not all police were busy with ticketing or crime this week.

So much to do this short week before Rosh Hashana,

food shopping is crazy and time is stretched to limits.

This man is often seen on skate board walking dogs,

but for first time I saw him pushing a baby stroller.

I wondered ‘his own, or some family short on time?’

image people in sukka

Friends who are visiting had time for brunch.

Signs were up for sales, but this restaurant got the first sukka photo for this year.

Every organization is looking for end-of-year donations,

this woman held a sign asking for charity in the Old City,

and this man on Jaffa Street had no sign.

He just held an empty cup.

But there are much prettier sights this time of year,

like these new limes on the tree ready to be picked,

and wonderful flowers, not just outside on the streets,

but inside

Public parks have been cleared and private gardens are ready,

since shmita, the year of not working the land, begins at Rosh Hashana.

The notes in the Western Wall,

were overflowing before the holiday clean up,

but no one was going to peek at this message wrapped tightly in blue thread.

New chairs were delivered, all ready for the holiday crowds on the plaza.
