Jerusalem Colored Blue & White and Red for Israel 70

Jerusalem Colored Blue & White and Red for Israel 70

Every year as soon as Passover ends, the Yoms begin, Yom HaShoah, Yom HaZikaron, Yom Ha’tzmaut, and Yom Yerushalyim. After remembering the victims of Holocaust, fallen IDF and terror, then celebrating Israel Independence and the unification of Jerusalem begin.

Flags come out. Jerusalem goes blue and white.

Official flags of Israel, Jerusalem and Beit Hanasi, the President’s House are displayed.

But also some private residences get into the holiday spirit. Cars, taxis, and motorcycles can be seen flying small flags.

There are new signs in Jerusalem for celebrating Israel’s 70th lining some streets.

Plane for Yom Haatzmaut

The practices for Yom Ha’atzmaut air show have taken place over several days.

Planes flyover Jerusalem, Israel practice for Yom Haatzmaut.

It is one of my favorite times of year. This year I got some of it on video to share with you.

The show seems bigger this year. Everything seems bigger this year for Israel 70.

Gala dinner of UIA at binyunei Hauma

The annual World Conference of Keren Hayesod-United Israel Appeal had over 1000 people at its opening gala dinner in the Jerusalem International Conference Center. From all over the world they came, so many from South America, I thought the event should have been done in Spanish, instead of English.

But all is not just blue and white, yellow roses are in full bloom, as are purple flowers and more. Perhaps a whole blog again of Jerusalem colors?

Light projection on Jewish Agency by JNF

These red flowers on the Jewish Agency Building are part of a light projection video by JNF in honor of Israel 70.

Seats were set up in the plaza for public viewing. Jerusalem is too often under a magnifying glass, maybe we get more attention than is desired.

JNF supporters are found around the world, country flags highlighted in this photo from the video.

The projection is scheduled to be seen only nights this week, so I recorded part of the video to share with you.

State celebrations for Independence Day will begin on Wednesday night with a torch lighting ceremony at Har Herzl. I plan to attend and share highlights as usual.

Israeli flags and memorial light for Yom HaZikaron

But first along with the blue and white flags, memorial flames are found on many buildings. Before the celebrations begin, we remember the fallen defenders of Israel and victims of terror.

The state televised ceremony is held at the Kotel, Western Wall. Communities throughout Israel host their own.

Yom HaZikaron 5778

I am planning to be at a ceremony at Givat Tachmoshet, Ammunition Hill. Near the memorial for fallen lone soldiers, an event sponsored by lone soldiers. Young men and women who come from around the world to serve the Jewish people and State of Israel.

As the Prime Minister said in his remarks at the UIA gala dinner last night,

We live in momentous times. The founders of modern Zionism did not say that the attacks on the Jewish people would seize once we establish a Jewish state. They said that we could defend ourselves against those attacks. And that’s exactly what the State of Israel has done. It’s restored the capacity of the Jewish people to defend ourselves, by ourselves, against any threat. And we are as powerful as we’ve never been before.

We will mourn the fallen, then we will celebrate the living and life.

After Hail on Passover, What Next?

Hail in April,

in Jerusalem, Israel?

Not only was there a hail storm as the holidays ended,

April hail storm in Jerusalem

but this was the scene the next day also.

It looked and felt like winter, not spring.

The city looked black and white,

as 4 mm hail stones fell.

But now,

the Passover things are put away,

and visitors have returned home.

The Happy Passover signs on buses have changed,

 The skies have cleared

“Tastes of Life” features foods that mothers made for their

Each mother shares not only a recipe,

but memories of their loved ones that are gone.

Very different,

but still another way to remember a lost loved one,

It boasts the only strictly kosher nunnery in world.

Also this week for all to see,

Ready to Celebrate Israel’s 64th Independence Day

If you are not in Jerusalem this week

you are missing out on a very special time,

as Jerusalem gets ready for Yom Ha’atzmaut, Independence Day.

The weather has been cool and sunny during the day, with clear blue  skies,

"picture for Israel Independence Day","image Israeli bopper", "photo blue and white"

as the streets fill with blue and white Israeli flags.

"picture selling flags", "image Israeli flag", "photo Israeli flag"

At major intersections someone is usually selling flags for car windows.

Even Prime Minister Bibi Netanyahu stopped his motorcade to buy a flag.

It is reported that he gave the seller a 5 shekel tip.

I wonder how you report that for taxes?

"picture Israeli flag", " Photo Israel flag", "image flag of Israel"

 As you can see,

in some neighborhoods business has been very good this year.

"picture flag on car, "Image of flag on car","photo Israeli flag on car"

This flag  was one I had not seen before. It reads “God, He is King.”

"picture Israeli flag", "Israeli flag photo", "image Israeli flag"

The long Israeli flags are flying and ready for Independence Day,

but yesterday I was lucky to see…

"photo planes flying over", "picture celebrate Independence Day"

the dress rehearsal of planes as they flew over

"picture Jerusalem", "Photo Jerusalem","image Jerusalem"

the Knesset Building

"picture Jerusalem", "Jerusalem photo", "image Jerusalem museum'

and the Israel Museum.

"photo Jerusalem", "picture Jerusalem", "image Jerusalem"

They were fast, loud and high in the sky as they flew away from Jerusalem.

"picture planes ", "photos planes", "image planes"

There was time for one photo as they were coming towards me,

just before they split from their perfect formation.

This morning, the sad music on the radio has begun…

"Israel flag and flame photo","picture of flame and flag", "image of Israel flag and flame"

for first we will experience the flames  and tears of Yom Hazikaron,

Remembrance Day for the fallen soldiers and victims of terror.

After remembering those lost in war and to terror attacks,

then it will be time to celebrate Israel’s 64th Independence Day.
