Yom Hazikaron in Jerusalem

Wednesday was Yom Hazikaron, Israel’s Remembrance Day

for those killed in war and by terror attacks.

It was observed in many ways. Some do not observe it at all.

I was at two major traffic locations when the memorial sirens sounded.

At night on Derech Hevron, Hebron Road, near the walls of the Old City,

cars kept moving and a large truck tried to pass against traffic.

On the Begin Highway some drivers got out of their cars before the

11:00am siren and stood silently, but as the siren began I was very surprised

to see many cars zooming around the stopped vehicles.

I decided not to show those disappointing video scenes,

but rather to share a few more positive photos.

The official government ceremony was held at the Kotel,

the Western Wall, on Tuesday night,

"picture Wailing Wall", "image Israeli soldiers", "photo memorial flame"

where an honor guard stood by the memorial flame.

The food court of the Rova, the Jewish Quarter of the Old City was closed.

"picture Old City","photo Jerusalem Old City", image Old City night

Many parts of the Old City were dark and quiet.

"picture concert", "photo Sultan Pool", "image Jerusalem"

At The Sultan’s Pool,  a huge stage was built and thousands gathered

for a musical presentation sponsored by the Jerusalem Municipality.

There were hundreds of young people,

but you could hear a pin drop during the siren and no one moved.

All over Jerusalem the next day,

"photo Jerusalem", Picture Jerusalem", image memorial wreath"

fresh flowers could be found at memorial locations,

"picture Jerusalem","photo memorial wreath", "image Jerusalem"

marking the memory of dear ones lost.

"picture Jerusalem traffic", "photo traffic", "image cars Jerusalem"

The Begin Highway looked like a parking lot,

as many people drove to the Har Herzl Military cemetery

to attend the official ceremony and to visit graves.

"picture traffic Jerusalem", "photo Jerusalem traffic', "image Jerusalem"

This speed sign showed that no one was driving too fast.

"picture flag half mast", "photo Israel flag", "image flame"

Red memorial flames were displayed, while Israeli flags flew at half-mast.

"picture Israeli flags", "image flags", "photo Israeli flags"

This year there seemed to be many more

"photo Israeli flags", "image flag", "picture Israel flag"

flags than usual.

"picture Israeli flag", "image flags", "photo flags"

I found a flag flying on top of this phone booth…

yes, there are still are a few phone booths.

"picture flags", "Image Israeli flags","photo children flags"

Israeli flags were displayed with pride this year.

"picture Yom Hazikron", ""image children", "photo ceremony"

I watched the young children at one memorial event

and thought of all the lives lost.

"picture Israel soldiers", "photo Israel flag", "image Old City Walls"

Are there really any Israelis who do not want peace

in the future for their children?

 Shabbat shalom.

Mamilla Cemetery New Incitement?

The week before Passover is a time of clean up, everything from Twitter

"dirty car", "Jerusalem rain"

to cars need to be cleaned.

"Palestinian land", "Photo cemetery abuse", "picture of garbage"

Until a couple of years ago one of the most neglected eyesores in

Jerusalem was the Mamilla Cemetery, it resembled a garbage dump.

"man working in cemetery", "picture of Mamilla Cemetery"

In June 2010 the cemetery got a make-over,

"graves in Mamilla Cemetery",

fresh cement was brought in

"cemetery Israel", "picture graves in Mamilla"

and mixed for new grave stones

"photo cemetery Mamilla"

and hundreds of new tombs,  which were soon proven to be fake.

One might ask why am I taking time away from Passover preparations,

the Mamilla Cemetery hypocrisy is not new?

Two years ago the Center for Constitutional Right – CCR- initiated the

   Mamilla Campaign to the UN

to stop the building of the Museum of Tolerance.

This past week from New York

the CCR has initiated a new campaign with a new video.

It’s not quality photography, but it is enough to be upsetting.

The picture I had seen on a Tweet was taken from this video

and is spreading in the Arab media world.

It was a warm, sunny spring day in Jerusalem,

so I went to see the new desecration for myself.

"picture Mamilla Cemetery abuse". "Mamilla fence'

The Mamilla Cemetery and the adjacent fenced-off  building site

are situated across from Gan Ha’atzmaut, Independence Park.

"photo Museum of Tolerance site". "picture of building site"

There were people enjoying the weather and afternoon sun.

Abuse of the Mamilla cemetery was not to be seen.

BDS did not work up a large anti-Israel reaction…

"Palestinian grave photo", "picture of Mamilla graves"

so it seems here we are again…

back to using the Mamilla cemetery to incite against Israel.

March Madness

In the United States “March Madness”

is the spring college basketball tournament,

in Israel “March Madness” takes on a different meaning.

With the new threat of millions of outsiders

on a  Global March to Jerusalem – the “GMJ,”

Israel is again cast as the aggressor in the Middle East.

Looking through March photos, I found this picture

"Palestinian men", 'Muslim prayers", "Israeli apartheid"

taken last year as Muslim worshipers were going to pray.

These men were entering through the Jaffa Gate to the Old City.

There were threats of violence on that Friday,

but Muslim worshipers still had access to their mosque.

This is not the picture GMJ paints for the world.

Please let us not forget, in March of last year

the Fogel family were brutally murdered

and a Jerusalem bus bomber killed a woman.

In March ten years ago, the Park Hotel in Netanya was blown up,

30 people were kiled.

 The Global March to Jerusalem

joins BDS (Boycott, Divest and Sanctions)

and Israel Apartheid Week

as the newest anti-Israel publicity exploit.

The GMJ organizers must have not have seen what

was really happening in Jerusalem,

so I am sharing again:

        This is Apartheid?

Israeli Apartheid?   and  More Israeli Apartheid?

It is time to stop the madness.
