Woodstock Revived in Jerusalem

As soon as Tisha B’Av is over music begins to fill the streets of Jerusalem, Israel.

One event that has gained in popularity is the Woodstock Revival,

which again this year was held in Kraft Stadium near Gan Sacher, Sacher Park.

Clothing, swim wear and other items were on sale,

but there were many who already had colorful outfits and flowers in their hair.

This was a time to take out the Marley and tie-dyed tee shirts.

This Woodstock was not an adults-only event.

Along with those arriving early to get a good spot there were lots of children,

This man seems to have found something to eat,

but it certainly was not from Norman’s, as that restaurant is long gone.

The stage was set for live music,

People arrived ready to spend many hours.

I had to leave to get to the Maccabiah 2013 opening ceremony,

but when I got home late at night,

I could still the music rocking from the loudspeakers.

Woodstock originals may not approve,

but many enjoyed this revival in Jerusalem!

Photos of the Fire in Jerusalem’s Valley of the Cross

Yesterday on my way home,

I noticed how dry it was in the Valley of the Cross

and I thought as I do every year:

it could all burn so quickly, so easily.

This afternoon smoke began to rise from the valley,

which is located under the Knesset Building.

For a time the smoke was dark and the flames were high,

and they spread very quickly.

Fire crews arrived,

and with their long water hoses

they put out the fire.

The smoke and the smell still lingered long afterwards.

But what seemed obvious was that after many months of construction and mess,

Valley of Cross

installing this emergency water system was worth the inconvenience and price.
