Cat Power

Female singer Cat Power is not coming to Israel to perform,

she says because of the Israel-Palestinian conflict.

However, in Jerusalem,

one

thing

we

have

plenty

of

is

two cats on a car image

cats,

and

more cats!

Your loss Cat Power, hope you feel better soon.

We have plenty of powerful cats on the streets of Jerusalem

and as the garbage piles up during this strike…

they are very happy cats now also.

Update:

Strike is over, but the mess may be around for awhile.

love it! it reminds me how once my son came home from kindergarten with a storybook they had made about different animals going home to their mommies. The chick flew home to it’s mommy in the nest, the puppy went home to it’s mommy in the kennel, and the kitten went home to it’s mommy in… the trash can!

Have a lot more cat photos, but these were just the ones who looked “powerful”, the stare you down right in the eye cats.

Who is CatPower? A fly by night performer who is looking for publicity. With Madonna coming to Israel soon, I am sure Israel has nothing to worry about in the celebrity column.

    Beautiful animals…

LOL! I have a standoff on my front stoop now between my dog and a stray cat. I’m guessing Jerusalem’s cats look so relaxed and content because there aren’t many dogs!

LOL! Good point, fewer dogs and lately so much more garbage to rule over!
One day will do the birds, they also will stare you down!

What a wonderful response to her decision…humour often brings the point home better than our angst…thanks for this…it was absolutely delightful. I’m sharing it with people out here on the Canadian west coast…and here’s to your all enjoying Madonna and Paul McCartney. I understand that they haven’t given in to the pressure!

Great post! Definitely shows the pervasiveness of the Israeli cat population. Reminds me of an art piece done by a friend of mine called “Famous Cats of Jerusalem” (shown on http://www.famouscatsofjerusalem.com/) where they took hundreds of pictures of Jerusalem’s cats, and then actually placed the photos around the city. I believe part of the idea was to highlight the beauty and uniqueness of the cats, as opposed to thinking about them as overgrown squirrels.

When I lived in Jerusalem I “adopted” several cats including one I named Hertzl. People indeed thought I was insane going into Kever David calling “Hertzl! Dinner!” What cuties. Anyway here’s a pix I took when in Israel last time. I call this “Kotel Kitty.” He’s eating a sandwich someone left, right next to an abandoned kippa:

Cute, plenty of very well fed cats in Jerusalem today.
The garbage bins were emptied, but the overflowing bins left plenty of meals behind on the sidewalks.

Our family adopted 10 cats when we lived in Jerusalem for a year in 1973. We could find a home for only one, it was heartbreaking. I visited our old appartment 5 years later and called the cats. One came and proudly showed me her kittens.Wonderful photos, Cheers, Elli
